EWI's Sixth Worldwide Security Conference

From the Global War on Terror to Common Security and Joint Action

Overview

The sixth annual Worldwide Security Conference (WSC6) will help accelerate change by articulating new goals for global security and new approaches to achieve them. It will be based on an agenda of progressive improvement in the way security is conceived, managed and reviewed. WSC6 brings together leading policy makers, specialists, business executives, community leaders, and journalists for solutions-oriented  discussions, debates and workshops. In line with the mission of the EastWest Institute, the conference aims to:

  • mobilize and connect the intellectual and physical resources needed to foster peace, security and human wellbeing;
  •
  • bridge government, business, and civil society to forge collective action on issues of global security.

On January 11th, the EastWest Institute held a high-level meeting on “Asymmetries of Science and Power” in Brussels. Ambassadors from Africa, Asia, and Latin America gathered to share their views on the long-term impact of science and technology on global security. The importance of technology transfer, education, and the effects of health and poverty were among the key issues raised by the participants. This discussion, the first of a series of meetings in advance of EWI’s 5th Worldwide Security Conference (WSC5), underlined the correlation between scientific developments, power relations, and future security threats.
